October 8, 2009, 11:30-1:00 P.M., The Lodge at UCCS, University Club luncheon series.  Dr. Terry Boult, El Pomar Endowed Chair of Innovation and Security described some of EPIIC's community partnerships, including the unique Bachelor of Innovation degree program that matches student teams with local companies and his successes in aiding Colorado firms to garner millions of dollars in Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) grants.  Dr. Michael Larson, El Pomar Endowed Chair of Engineering and Innovation, discussed how the University assists Southern Colorado businesses and entrepreneurs through creative product design and development services.  



August 29, 2009 Toy and Game Designers' Workshop The second annual Toy and Game Designers' Workshop was hosted by UCCS on August 29, 2009 at the Upper Lodge on the UCCS campus.  Workshop participants heard Dr. Michael Larson speak on topics ranging from concept generation and evaluation to attributes of good games and protecting ideas as well as information on prototyping, working with an agent, marketing, and manufacturing. 

 

April 3, 2009 Mountain Lion Research DayThe first annual Mountain Lion Research Day hosted by EPIIC and the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research and Innovation was held on April 3, 2009 at the Upper Lodge. The purpose of Mountain Lion Research Day was to encourage and promote communication and collaboration between investigators at UCCS. The day was set aside to recognize undergraduate and graduate student research efforts, highlight aspects of faculty research activities, and showcase the diversity and growth of research pursuits on campus. February 27, 2009 Invention 2 Venture 2009 The third Invention to Venture workshop was hosted by UCCS on February 27, 2009 in University Center room 116. Part of a nationwide series of conferences focusing on technology entrepreneurship, speakers helped participants gain insight into the processes necessary for taking medical technology from design to implementation and commercialization. This biomedical technology entrepreneurship workshop positioned faculty members, graduate students, and community participants to make contributions to existing medical technology companies or to biomedical technology start-up firms. Invention to Venture workshops are held in cooperation with the National Collegiate Inventors and Innovators Alliance (NCIIA).

December 10, 2008 What It Takes to Produce Winning SBIR and STTR Proposals Dr. Terry Boult will review the Department of Defense Small Business Innovation Research and Small Business Technology Transfer programs and what it takes to produce winning proposals. Event begins at 5:30 P.M. at 14960 Woodcarver Road.

October 25, 2008 Toy and Game Designers' Workshop The first annual Toy and Game Designers' Workshop hosted by UCCS was held on October 25, 2008 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel. Workshop participants heard presentations on topics ranging from concept generation and evaluation to attributes of good games and trade shows to protecting ideas as well as presentations on protyping, working with an agent, marketing, and video game creation. April 25, 2008 Invention 2 VentureThe second Invention to Venture workshop hosted by UCCS was held on April 25, 2008 in the University Center Theatre. Part of a nationwide series of conferences focusing on technology entrepreneurship, speakers discussed opportunity assessment, intellectual property issues, marketing, and venture capital as it related to the conference theme "Doing Business with the Government."

April 19, 2008 Inventing Games: A Workshop for Kids Dr. Michael Larson presented a free game invention workshop at Celebration Place at the Citadel Mall. He started out by talking about what makes a game "fun." Next, he and other engineers from UCCS worked with groups to brainstorm ideas for a new game concept. They then settled on an idea and showed the participants how to design and create a prototype.

January 24, 2008 STTR/SBIR Workshop Dr. Terry Boult reviewed the STTR/SBIR program and discussed the process involved to produce winning grant proposals. He encouraged faculty, graduate students, and community members to write proposals to fund their research.

January 9, 2008: STTR/SBIR Proposal Workshop The goal of the workshop is to review the SBIR/STTR program and what it takes to produce winning proposals. EPIIC has offered many SBIR Seminars in the past, and this continued in that successful series. It was 3-10 P.M. at Copper Mountain so participants could get in a day of skiing (or work) before and after.

August 25, 2007: Mothers of Invention Workshop  Dr. Michael Larson, Ph.D., of UCCS’s Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering and EPIIC's El Pomar Chair of Engineering and Innovation hosted this event.  The MOI workshop was designed to help women test their ideas, develop them, and either take their product prototypes to market or sell their ideas to an established company.  Held at The Penrose House over 130 people attended this informational event.  Imagination Celebration!, The Small Business Development Center, EPIIC , and El Pomar Foundation jointly presented the MOI Workshop.

The I2V workshop was sponsored by the National Collegiate Inventors and Innovators Alliance, KRCC Radio and The Gazette.

April 25, 2007: 2007 Entrepreneurial Finance Speaker Series presented Venture Capital by Patrick Bultema—Venture Partner, vSpring Capital . All of the 2007 Entrepreneurial Finance Speaker Series events were held at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs in the University Center Theater. The series was sponsored by the Colorado Institute for Technology Transfer and Implementation (CITTI) and the Center for Entrepreneurship in the College of Business and Administration at UCCS.

November 10, 2006: STTR/SBIR Proposal Workshop The goal of the workshop was to review the SBIR/STTR program and what it takes to produce winning proposals. EPIIC has offered many SBIR Seminars in the past, but this version was a bit more focused on the STTR process intended for faculty and small businesses that want to partner with CU on STTR proposals.

October 20, 2005: SBIR/STTR Proposal Preparation Workshop: This workshop presented an overview of Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer Program (STTR) programs, grant opportunities and proposal preparation.

October 21, 2005: BioTechnology and BioInformatics Symposium: This was a community and academic forum.

August 17, 2005: Innovating the Innovation Zone: This was a presentation about a proposed Research Park on North Nevada

January 7, 2005: SBIR Workshop in conjunction with IEEE Conference The goal of the workshop was to review the SBIR program and what it takes to produce winning proposals.

Nov 6, 2003: SBIR/STTR Phase I Proposal Preparation Workshop Finding funding for technology is a challenge, especially in today's market. When bootstrapping one's business, exploring every financial opportunity is essential. Two grant programs providing much needed capital for technology-based product development of start-up companies are the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program and the Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) program.

September 19, 2003: Cybersecurity Symposium

June 4-6, 2003: BIS Conference, The College of Business and The Graduate School of Business Administration at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs sponsored the 6th International Conference on Business Information Systems, a 3 day event that was previously held in Poznan, Poland.
